Larry King was A Deadbeat?
Page Six is reporting that a new book about Miami in the 60's includes interviews and information that reveals that Larry King was a deadbeat before (and after?) he made it big.
The most interesting and damaging piece of information was from the author of the book, Edythe Schindler Klein who said: "He was a wiseguy New York Jew who never stopped talking and was a lot of fun to be around. But he owed money to guys with ties to the Mafia . . . it got scary."
More quotes from the book:
Irving Cowan: "There are a lot of people in Miami Beach who are still angry with Larry, a lot of people he still owes money to. He makes enough . . . to pay them back."
Don Sebastian: "I performed for Larry King at two of his weddings when he lived in Miami Beach - did it for free because he was a friend," "He still owes me $20 that he borrowed at the track."
Hope Pomerance: "Not too long ago Larry King was nominated to be on the Miami Beach Walk of Stars, but the board voted him down. That tells you what people think of him around here."Shirly Zaret a local business owner said this of King: "Larry King was a loser," "Everyone knew it. He rented a home from my parents and moved [out] in the middle of the night. Just skipped town . . . he stiffed them, this big shot Larry King."
Jack Courson: "He borrowed money from my father and never paid it back. "He called me once and said, 'Hey Jack, how much did I owe your father?' I told him it was $5,000. I thought he was planning to pay it back. But no, he was filing for bankruptcy and wanted to tally up his debts."
